SustainCommWorld Consulting

SustainCommWorld offers consulting services that focus on profitable, sustainability best practices - through the Media Lens. We know media - communication both analog and digital. Understanding our client's business is the starting point for our work.

Wherever you are at in the process, we can assist you in refining or meeting your sustainability objectives.

1. Getting Started in Sustainability

Many potential clients come to us and ask, "Can you help us establish a competitive Sustainability Program?" To help clients parse that question into a Statement of Work with line items and deliverables we have prepared illustrations or maps that describe the tasks, processes and deliverables for an average enterprise.

The engagements described below are structured to provide the client with assistance in getting started in a Sustainability Program. They are short, quickly executed and will surface major issues to be considered.

  • 1a. A summary of where the client has been and what they've done with regard to Sustainability.
  • 1b. Write a report illustrating a complete product life cycle for one major product.
  • 1c. Write a Pro-forma Report to Stakeholders - a status report that establishes a baselines prior to launching a full sustainability program for all products

These engagements facilitate getting started on a productive, comprehensive, and effective Sustainability Plan - one that assists all personnel in understanding the issues, tasks, and desired out-comes for all products.

The three items below are indicative of engagements clients have retained us to perform. The "deliverables" are tightly focused, the processes need to complete the engagement well known and the deliverables and costs defined. If you feel one or more of these examples meets a part of your requirements call us to discuss the details of your situation.

1a Sustainability to Date - A take-off point for the Sustainability Plan

Statement of Work:

Client Question: How do we summarize the work we've done, and the sustainability steps we've taken, while preparing for our sustainability statement?

Deliverable: A "snap-shot" audit and Management Summary of the client's current status in major areas - Corporate Accountability, Supply Chain, Transportation, Digital & Printed Media, Packaging, Distribution and the Offices and Plant.

Clients have found this information useful as they chart, initiate and publish their Sustainability Planning documents.

1b Product Life Cycle Analysis

Statement of Work:

Client Question: How do I conduct a sustainable life cycle analysis of our major product line(s)?

Deliverable: A report covering the product life cycle stages that illustrates how each step or stage relates to sustainability.

We find that many companies have never formalized their Product Life Cycle Process from initial planning and design to product end-of-life. Clients understand the process they use to manufacture their products but are now being asked to perform many refinements in design, packaging, as well as end-of life aspects of the product life cycle. Now that sustainability has become an important issue they are re-examining the process and it's relationship to over-all sustainability.

1c Pro-forma Report to Stakeholders

Statement of Work:

Client Question: How do we package and market the information to our Stakeholders?

Deliverables:

  • A statement that identifies the major stakeholders and their roles
  • A review and comments regarding the major books of original entry that will be used to track progress
  • Summary of trade journals and information inputs
  • Recommendations on likely avenues of approach to each group

This engagement works through the processes that will be used when the Sustainability Plan is launched but worked as a pro-forma exercise so that the client gains first hand experience in data collection, management responsibilities, and salient information. In essence, it is a "dress-rehearsal" using available historic information to produce a "status to date" report.

With this exhibit in hand, major executives can gain a detailed perspective of the necessary work going forward.

A reconnaissance session is necessary to understand the client's requirements and company topography. We meet with key executives and managers, tour your facility and review your program to date.

Upon completion of this phase and agreement on a statement of work, SustainCommWorld will present a proposal, an estimated work schedule, and total costs for additional work to be performed for client evaluation.

2. Tuning Your Sustainability Plan

This set of tasks focuses on a particular area of the overall Sustainability Map and tasks associated with improving performance or the marketing of your accomplishments to communicate to target markets or stakeholders.

The Enterprise Sustainability Map shown below assists clients identify who, what, where, when, why questions relevant to a desired outcome.

Examples of possible engagements:

We use this illustration to describe client requirements and to state their major area of inquiry and how those requirements relate to the other parts of their Sustainability Plan.

3. Greening the Supply Chain

Green supply chain management focuses on reducing waste, energy and hazardous materials and by-products that may occur during the processes throughout a products' entire life cycle. This approach requires managers to collaborate with suppliers, incorporate environmental concerns into product design and manufacturing, reduce distribution and transportation emissions and plan for the return, recycle and proper disposal of their products.

We work with senior management to gain buy-in and drive ownership, set goals and establish key metrics to measure and manage success. We do this within the context of the company's business goals and human and financial resources. We help businesses establish the tools they need to implement their program and redirect their culture to align with their sustainability objectives.

4. Surveys and Research

Along with consulting services, we perform research projects and conduct surveys to key stakeholder groups that help to define current knowledge and attitudes about a variety of subjects.

Our Commitment:

From day one, our motivation is to establish a lasting, long-term relationship.

Sustainability is an on-going process, not a destination. Society is on a long upward slope that is likely to involve more challenging issues as time passes. We believe that a long-term relationship will have great value and bear substantial dividends for clients.

We work every engagement taking into consideration your best interests both short and long term.
